How often do we live by some quotes, just to have some people challenge it later, sometimes years later?
I remember my school’s motto: “Knowledge is Power”. For years we have to recite that at weekly assemblies. OK, knowledge is power. To get power, we must accumulate knowledge, so the lesson goes.
More than a decade later, some gurus challenge that. It is no longer true that knowledge is power. It is redefined as:
Knowledge is not power; Applied knowledge is Power.
Well, isn’t that the case? Knowing is not enough, but what we do with what we know that is going to make a difference for anyone.
Then there is this often quoted “Practice makes perfect”. Well, really? How about this re-definition:
- Practice makes permanent;
- Conscious practice makes improvement;
- Perfect practice makes perfect?
Practice doesn’t make perfect, it just makes permanent!
